"If you love the music, play the music!"

About Me

My Musical Journey

I was born on January 13, 2007 in Vero Beach, Florida.  My musical journey began in 2019 when I received a new fiddle for Christmas.  Due to the pandemic, I had lots of spare time on my hands to learn how to play many fiddle tunes.  Early on, I was mostly self-taught and learned primarily "by ear" or by watching videos.  In 2020 I felt confident enough to start playing with other musicians at local jams and festivals.  I quickly learned many new techniques and have been truly blessed to meet an outstanding group of musicians that have helped me tremendously as my playing has progressed.  I continue to learn new fiddle playing skills almost daily and look forward to a lifetime of honing my craft and sharing my knowledge and music with others.

Over the past year, I have had many great opportunities to play with some excellent bands and learn from some great musicians.  I even got invited to go on tour with Rhonda Vincent and The Rage including doing two shows on the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville!

Since graduating high school in January of this year I have started my own band called Ian Lane and Southern Flavor.  I am joined in the band by my good friend and mentor Keith Bass along with brothers Tippen and Alton Padgett, and Rex Putnam on bass fiddle.  We focus on tight harmonies and hard driving Bluegrass!

My Musical Goals

I have recently started my own band called Ian Lane and Southern Flavor.

I am currently working on building relationships with promoters and venue operators to provide opportunities for my band to build a following and increase our exposure to new fans.  My long term goal is to get into a studio and do some recordings and possibly release an album in the near future.  I will also continue to look for opportunities as a fiddle player to work with other bands whenever possible.

My Musical Family

The following bands and individuals have been instrumental in helping me along my journey:  Low Ground, Penny Creek, Blue Cypress Bluegrass, Keith Bass and the Florida Bluegrass Express, Royce Burt Fiddles, Wyatt Ellis and Friends, Low Key, Remedy Tree, Justin Mason and Blue Night, Morgan Brake and Duck Wallow Lane, Sandy Back Porch, Jim Lauderdale and Songs from the Road Band,  HWY 41 South,  Special Consensus, Bruce Watson,  Chris Sexton, Michael Cleveland and Jason Carter.  Rhonda Vincent and the Rage, Pitney Meyer, Seth Mulder and Midnight Run, Travelin McCoury's, Larry Stephenson, Po Ramblin Boys, Ettore Buzzini, Southern Express Bluegrass, Mason Via, Logan Lobdell, Noah Goebel, Ernie Evans, and many others.  Special thanks to Rhonda Vincent for inviting me to play with her and The Rage on the Grand Ole Opry.....a dream come true for me!
